Dear Mr Parnell
My name is Kohuroa Matene, and I would like to tell you what my Labour weekend was like.
It was a hot sunny day and we went to Whangarei pools for Huhana Jean’s 5th birthday. My whole family went out to support her whanau and friends it was so fantastic there were a lot of people there.
She got a lot of presents and there was a lot of food on the table.
When we were all swimming in the pool we all decide to play a game of rugby in the pool and all the winners won prizes.
My labour weekend was so fantastic, we all got to spend time with our families and friends.
Your Sincerely.
Kohuroa Matene.

NZ Shake out!
NZ Shake out!
On Tuesday we got a visitor from the Civil defence. There was a lady and her name was Annmarie and she brang her dog and the dog's name was Mazuk. They came to talk about earthquakes. She played a sound of a earth quake and there were tables set around the room when you hear that sound you have to drop cover and hold. She also was showing us balancing and was telling us that buildings go like a wave. When you're in an earthquake you can hear the cracking and rumbling sounds. In an earthquake you need to curl into a ball just incase if something drops your leg will get trapped. If you're out and not close to a table or anything you have to curl into a ball and put one hand on your head and the other hand on your neck. Mazuk is like a rescue dog. If you want to know more about earthquakes you can search the internet. It was a awesome day learning more about earthquakes.

ANZAC Parade
WALT:
To add interest beginnings and endings
The Cold Darkness
It was a Saturday, a cold and dark morning. It was the day of ANZAC the 25th, the day of commemoration for all the men and soldiers who went to war in Gallipoli.
My papa and nana came into the room and woke me up and said, “Come on let's go up to the dawn parade, at the R.S.A and watch your brother march.“
So we rushed up to the R.S.A and there we saw my brother standing in the line, waiting for them to march.
We all heard their commander say, ‘Stand in attention’ and then the band in the front started to play.
We marched down to the Memorial Hall. I was so proud to see my brother marching in the parade for his first time. When we got there, I heard the kaumatua giving a speech about the men who died in World War one in Gallipoli. There were many others as well, and not long after that, there were wreaths laid in memory of the soldiers that died and then finally the last post was played along with someone who played the bagpipes.
After that we went to the wahi tapu in Te Iringa to see my cousin Wiremu. We stayed there for about 10 minutes, then back to Kaikohe to have a kai at McD's.
When I think about the morning that I just had, it made me feel so proud to see my brother marching and to be a part of such a big occasion.
